The Show Was AWESOME!!!
When I was young my Mother would not allow me to go to concerts because of a riot that had occurred in the Milwaukee Arena. So my first chance to see PF was in 1987 after the release of the MLOR album.
I was in the Army at the time and had just bought MLOR the day before it was to be released. My wife(now ex) had told me of a tour and that they would be coming to Tampa, FL at the same time I was coming home to move her to FT Bliss, TX. I planned to spend whatever amount of money it took to get tickets when I got home. But the Army had other ideas. The Command Sergeant Major from the higher headquarters of my unit had come to visit and thought it would be good for me to go on an upcoming training exercise seeing as I was new to the unit. I had originally planned to take 10 days of leave, and with this decision I lost 3 of those days. Needless to say, the day I left was the day PF was playing in Tampa.
Pink Floyd was going to play in Dallas, but that is really too far from El Paso and by the time I heard about a show in Phoenix, it was sold out. So I made myself a promise that if PF ever toured I would be there no matter what it took.
It was a long wait until May of 1994 when PF once again toured. I went to the local Ticketmaster and got in line with a friend to get tickets. I got the $45 tickets which put us about half way up on the west side of the stadium, to the right of the stage if you were looking straight at it.
The seats were good but we could not see all of the screen in the middle of the stage. I wished I had had the money for the seats on the grass. But I was finally at a PF concert, so I was happy.
The show was AWESOME!! I could not believe my eyes. All the lights and lasers were incredible. The theatrics with the pigs with the headlight like eyes were really cool too. I was amazed at all the different things I saw and heard during each song. Like the bed flying over the crowd after just seeing it rolling thru the hallways on the screen in the middle of the stage.
However, the coolest part of the show was yet to come, during the song Comfortably Numb, A large mirrored ball started rising from the back of the stadium. It was hit with lights and white spots formed all over the crowd and the ball started to spin. It kinda seemed like the stadium was spinning. Then the ball started to open like a flower would and another part opened and raised up revealing a really super bright light that did not hurt the eyes. I was totally blown away. I wished the concert would never had ended.
This was the best concert I had ever seen in my life I have yet to see one better. But I believe the next PF concert tour will beat it and I will be on the floor of the stadium this time.
