Pink Floyd and Me...
My tribute to a great band...
I have been listening to music since I was very
little. I always have tried to pull apart a song,
trying to understand everything about it, from the
music, all the way down to the lyrics.. I always
had a very strong point for music, in every aspect.
I've had my share of favorites, One or two songs
per artist, with the same feeling when they came on
the radio that everyone has had, when they hear that
special song. I've also had my share of albums..
one here, one there, picking out my few favorite
songs, a few from each album.I remember the first time I heard a Pink Floyd song
.. Wayne my husband, and I worked in a nearby city
which was about a 45 min drive from home. He popped
in this album, and I though to my self "oh no, not
"this" music again!" Wayne is (or was) an avid
Pink Floyd fan, and like so many others, I thought
"who is this person", not knowing anything about the
band itself. I gave it a whirl, and listened to what
he had to offer. I have to at least give music one
try, like it or not, it is still music.Well needless to say, I now am the one who is the pink
floyd-aholic, Wayne is the one that says
"not that again". Not that he doesn't like Pink Floyd
anymore, but its just not the same love. My love for
the band and this weird music grew and grew, going
from owning one album to as many as I could get my
hands on.. At no time, in the time that I have been
listening to music, and admiring such sounds from
different groups, has my love grown so much as it has
with Pink Floyd. There wasn't any other sound/songs
that could match the feelings I felt, everything I can
relate with. Then, I obtained a copy of "Delicate Sound of
Thunder", and that was the hook. I had seen only a few
bands in concert, but nothing compared to this..
The lights, the music, the Lasers. Little did I know
what was in store when I saw them live. It is hard to
describe the feeling you get. You feel, not only the
sounds of the music, but you also feel it tugging at
you, calling you in. It (the music) had me, and I knew
this wasn't like any other band.. you can feel the
souls of each musician, brought together to make one
sound, one special sound. Its a warm embrace on a cold
winters nite. Its a wrong that is made right.Living in California, Wayne and I worked together in a
fast food restaurant. We knew Pink Floyd was coming in
concert, and knew this was our chance to really see what
was out there. We were both very excited. On his way to
pick me up for work, he heard on the radio, that the
concert was full. Sold out. The worst thing anyone can
hear when waiting so diligently. On the way to work,
on the radio we hear, "Pink Floyd concert extended
w/ a few extra seats!" OH joy!! We were sooo excited,
could hardly wait! We were really going to go see them
live! The big day, and we both took the day off for the big
event. Going out there, we were sooo excited. It was
about an hour drive from where we were to Pasadena, home
to the Rose Bowl. We got into Pasadena, and seemed to
turn in where the sign was, to a residential area.
Twisted and turned we turned on to what was the edge of
a golf course. Ha, that was our parking area!
It filled quickly, and before I knew it, people were
getting out of their cars, frisbee in hand. Next thing I
know, people were walking around selling beer,
and t-shirts.. Wow, my first tailgate party!!We could all tell, everyone was getting anxious, the time
was getting near. Everybody started moving to the big
arena. There were soo many people! We found out seats,
and couldn't believe just how many people were stuffed
into this arena! You could cut the tension with a Knife!
The lights go out, the music starts. There is such a
feeling that comes over me, and you can feel it throughout
the whole arena. To look around and see thousands of people,
lighters in hand. It lit the arena with a glow. How awesome,
to see my favorite band, in person! The concert was awoke!!
The lights, the music, was Magical. Is a nite I will
never forget.. was an awesome concert! So to The Boys of
Pink Floyd I Give my humble thanks. For the concert,
the music, the love. The love of music that is shared with
us all, and for the great friendship that it has brought
through the years. It will "Shine on" for many years to come.
Especially in my heart. "With Friends surrounded, for ever
and ever...."
