IRCle Login Help

STEP ONE: Download

Download the proper IRCLe Program for your computer. The best places to download are from the original programers homepage or Tucows. With any program please run a virus check on all downloaded programs to insure safety for your computer. IRCle is shareware and comes with a 30 day free trial. After that the program must be registered.

STEP TWO: CONNECTING

I'm not a Mac user so this will be very general. For more extensive direction please visit: IRCle Setup Guide!. First download the IRCle program and install it to your hard drive. After you have installed the files, and launched Ircle, you will get several windows on your screen. To set up your personal information go to your Connections window.

In this window you will see 3 columns.

Status: Tells you if you are connected or not.
Nickname: Your nickname on that particular connection.
Server: Name of the server. IRC consists of lots of different servers and networks.

Choose an UNDERNET NETWORK TO connect to.

Ircle Connection

You will also see the following buttons.

Connect Clicking this button will connect you to the selected server.
Edit You can change your personal information by clicking this button.
Nick You can change your nick with this button. The 'Nick'-button is only available to you if you are already connected to a server.
Disconnect Disconnects you from the server.
Server You can choose/add another server. The server list will show up.

STEP THREE: Changing your personal information

To change your personal information select a connection in your connection window and click on the 'edit'-button. You will get the following window.

IRCLE Prefrences

Server If you want to select a different server from you server list or add a new server, click on the 'server'-button. You will get a new window with the server list where you can choose a server. If you don't select a server, Ircle will use the default server for that particular connection as shown in your connections window.
Nickname Most people use a nickname instead of their real name on IRC. In the nickname field you can enter your nickname. Your nickname may not contain over 9 characters. Most of the IRC servers don't accept that.
Username Username name can be anything you like.
However, some servers do require that you use your real account name (your login-name of your internet account).
Using another username than your real account name can result in a rejection by the server.
Mostly this is a policy of that particular network that the server is connected to, and connecting to a different server of that network won't solve the problem.
Password You can leave this blank. You only have to fill in your password here, if you want to connect to a server that requires a password.
Real name You can fill in anything you like. This information can be seen by other users, so please be careful with private/personal information like email address or you real name.
Auto connect to server Check this checkbox if you want Ircle to automatically connect you to the server on startup.
Invisible Check this checkbox if you want to be invisible to other users. If you are invisible only the people who know your nick and the people who are on the same channel as you are, are able to see you.
WALLOPS Wallops are public messages between IRC Operators (server operators). You are able to see those messages by checking this checkbox.
Receive server messages If you want to receive server messages, check this checkbox.
Settings This option is not available yet.

After you've changed all the settings click the 'OK'-button and choose 'Save Preferences' from your File Menu. After making changes to your settings, always choose 'Save Preferences' from your File Menu! Or you will lose everything you have saved.

STEP FOUR: Joining the Fun

IRCLE Channel Screen

After that go to your Connections window and click on the 'connect'-button. Ircle will connect you to the server. Once your are connected, you can join a channel by using the following command /join #channelname #PinkFloyd&Co. followed by return. Or choose 'Join' from your Command Menu and enter the channel name of the channel you want to join.

As you join a channel you will notice the nicknames on the right, the main channel window on the left and your input line below. This is where you type your messages to the channel and click the enter key to send to the channel.

You can disconnect from any server by selecting its line in the Connections window and clicking Disconnect. To quit Ircle, just select Quit under the File menu. You can enter an optional farewell message which will be sent to all channels you are on. If you've made further changes to the preferences, go ahead and save them when prompted to do so.

I am sure there are many things I have not addressed here. You can try any of the following links to find out more about your IRCle program including the use of many options and fun things to do with each IRC program, from popups, aliases, sounds, events, addons and scripts. Some helpful sites where you can get a variety of help with your IRCle program are:

Always remember there are real people behind each nickname, please treat people as you would like to be treated with respect and courtesy. Word of caution...Do not accept any files from anyone you don't know. Always make sure the dcc 'auto get' is unchecked in your dcc set up.

And above all enjoy meeting and making new friends around the world!
