| The Diver from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album was photographed by Storm & Co. at Mono Lake's South Tufa area. |
HeyYou' prepares to dive into the lake that is coming up on one million years old and has outlasted five different Ice Ages. |

| Just a few years of mankind has been enough to almost destroy this wonder. Los Angeles water diversions to the streams feeding the lake have caused the water level to drop to deadly levels (for both man and wildlife). |
The limestone Tufa form in much the same way that a cave will grow stalactites from its ceiling. Strangely enough, these petrified springs are created underwater and grow upwards due to gravity. |

| Sand Tufa is another one of the natural creations at Mono Lake and is formed a bit differently than the 'regular' Tufa. It has been estimated that Sand Tufa may grow within hours or days instead of the few millimeters a year that the 'regular' Tufa does. |

| HeyYou` stands in the exact spot that Storm would have had to be to photograph the Diver. This is rather a delicate spot with fragile Tufa all around. |
Most likely the photographer was straddling the Tufa or had to set up his equipment in the water because the Tufa here is still in good shape. Just to the other side of the glacier troughs and moraines in the background lies Yosemite National Park. |

| Because the lake is three times as salty and eighty times more alkaline than the Pacific Ocean (yes, it tastes like it too), it is very hard to sink in this water. It is amazing that the Diver stayed down long enough to let the ripples dissipate for the photo. |
Please help the effort to save Mono Lake. before we lose this natural wonder. Just a few years of abuse was enough to endanger the system here. |
